  Raloxifene is an oral selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that has estrogenic actions on bone and anti-estrogenic actions on the uterus and breast. It is used in the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Eli Lilly announced that new data from a late-stage trial showed that its investigational drug arzoxifene was superior to Evista (raloxifene) at increasing bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine.
